Conceptualizing the Full-Spectrum Doula

This study  uses qualitative methods to understand how and why doula support is effective in a setting such as a high-volume urban hospital-based abortion clinic.

2012-2013 Patient Support During Surgical Abortion  

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of abortion doula support during a 1st trimester abortion (< 13 6/7 wks gestational age) on the pain at the time of the abortion, as measured using a 100-mm Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Long term, this study will provide preliminary data on the impact of incorporating a volunteer doula service into abortion services.
